First Week of May 2016

This week was busy enough to warrant a blog post all it's own.

May starts off with Peter's birthday.  He got some presents, but I think one of the things he was most excited about was the desert I surprised him with on his birthday.  When we lived in Cedar City we went to a diner that had excellent fried cheesecake.  I found a recipe for fried cheesecake on pinterest that was pretty simple, so that's what he got instead of cake.  It was very yummy.

Peter artfully arranged his plate
Wednesday, we took Rex and Julie out for Rex's birthday, and had a lovely dinner with them at Tucano's.  No pictures, but it was nice to have one-on-one time with them, as most of the time we get together with all the Burnett siblings.

The Turek family motto is "It is what is is".  Mom got us girls keychains with this motto on them for Mother's day.  Thanks Mom!

It was just in time to add it to my backpack for my backpack's maiden voyage:  A Cub Scout trip to Tracy Aviary.  We went Saturday morning, right after the park opened, which the keepers told us was when the birds would be the most lively.  It was sort of a rainy weekend, which meant it was cool, but not too cold, and there were very few families when we first arrived.  We stayed for the bird show at 11am and left right after.  It was just the right amount of time to see all the birds but not let the Cubs get too bored.  It was also a great opportunity for me to practice some photography and making adjustments on the fly.

This parrot was talking to us some.  Saying "Hello" and "Hi" and laughing at us.

The boys were just fascinated with this peacock.
They kept coming back to look at him again and again.

Peter being an awesome leader!
This is an Andes Condor.  He's a big bird.

This eagle was fussing at a keeper who was cleaning the enclosure.

There were several stations set up around the park with different bird-related activities.

goslings!

Later that day, we went to the Burnetts' to celebrate Mother's Day/Rex's birthday.
